On 22 April 2026 the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters filled Norwood Concert Hall for the 2026 Eastside Business Awards, a night celebrating the cafés, restaurants, retailers and service businesses that make Adelaide's eastern suburbs tick. The council brought me in to cover the whole evening, from arrivals on the media wall to the last winners' selfies on stage.

A grand old room
Norwood Concert Hall is a beautiful space to shoot: timber floors, a proper stage and those big heritage walls. It also comes with its challenges (mixed stage lighting, dark corners and a lot of ground to cover), so I worked between the balcony for the wide room shots and the floor for speeches, tables and candids.

Speeches and the Mayor's address
The night's host welcomed guests before Mayor Robert Bria took the lectern to talk about the resilience and contribution of local businesses, then presented the awards. For corporate events, I make sure every speaker gets clean, well-framed shots that work for press, social media and council publications.

Dinner, drinks and the in-between moments
Awards nights aren't just about the trophies. The candid moments between courses (people catching up, laughing and reading the menu) are what make the gallery feel like you were there.

The winners
Each winner got their moment on stage with the Mayor, and I made sure every one of them got a crisp, well-lit handover photo. A highlight for me was seeing Taste of Nepal take out Best Restaurant/Pub; eight days later I was in their kitchen shooting for the council's content day on The Parade (more on that in this post).
