The Paradise Hotel on Lower North East Road in Paradise is a proper local: big bistro, busy bar and a menu full of pub favourites. In March 2024 I shot the new menu along with their drinks and bar team, for the website, social media and in-venue promotion.
A darker, moodier look
Every venue needs its own style. The Paradise bistro has bold patterned tile tabletops, so rather than shooting bright and airy I went darker and moodier: directional light, deep shadows and colours that pop off the tiles. It gives the food a premium feel and makes the images instantly recognisable as Paradise.
Movement and detail
A few action shots go a long way. A lemon squeezed over crumbed prawns, frozen mid-spray against a dark background, does more to make someone hungry than any description on a menu. I also shot the share platters for their function and events packages: arancini and finger food laid out the way guests will actually see them.
Behind the bar
The team behind the bar are a huge part of any pub's personality, so we finished with drinks and staff: cocktails being shaken, an espresso martini on the bar, a fresh pint off the tap and red wine being handed across the counter. These shots are perfect for recruitment posts, event promotion and showing regulars the faces behind the bar.
